South African PMB Academy

Specialist PMB & medical scheme funding education — coming soon.

The South African PMB Academy is being developed as a practical education platform focused on South African PMB administration, medical scheme funding processes, claims and related healthcare administration.

Coming soon

The Academy has not launched yet

The programme is currently in development. Programme dates, enrolment information and formal recognition status will be published once confirmed. In the meantime the HealthAdmin resource library covers much of the same ground and is free to read.

About this material

CPD, SAQA, CMS or other regulatory recognition should not be assumed unless and until formally confirmed. The material is practical education, not legal, clinical or financial advice, and it does not describe the rules of any particular medical scheme.

Planned areas

What the Academy will cover

  • Understanding PMBs

What Prescribed Minimum Benefits are, how Diagnosis and Treatment Pairs and the Chronic Disease List work, and how a scheme assesses whether PMB rules apply to a claim.

  • Medical scheme funding

How day-to-day benefits, chronic benefits and PMBs differ, and why the same treatment can be funded very differently depending on how it is assessed.

    Available to read now

  • Claims and short-payments

Reading remittance advice properly, spotting recurring causes rather than individual shortfalls, and knowing which claims are still workable.

  • Authorisations and motivations

What an authorisation actually confirms, what delays applications, and how to track one through to an answer.

    Available to read now

  • Queries, follow-up and appeals

Building a query record that survives staff changes, using a scheme's own escalation path, and understanding where an internal query ends and a formal process begins.

  • Protecting practice revenue

Where revenue leaks in a working practice, how to find it in the age analysis and the remittances, and what a sustainable administrative rhythm looks like.

Would your team find a session useful?

If your reception or billing staff would benefit from working through any of this together, say so on the call and we can talk about what would actually help.

Where is your practice losing time or revenue?

Tell us where the administrative pressure sits. PMBs, claims, authorisations, scheme queries, or a backlog nobody has time to work.
